AJ / Jama

Hey, I'm AJ!
(or Jama)

I build data, and now AI, systems for a living, write essays whenever I have strong opinions, and learn random languages and/or scripts every once in a while.
Currently trying to start a PhD program in East Africa, consulting to make money, and working on some passion projects.

Welcome to my corner of the internet — everything I'm working on, thinking about, or hoping for is right below ↓

PhD Proposal

I am shopping around this proposal to some universities as a basis for doctoral research in AI for Development. I would appreciate feedback, if that's your jam.

Passion Projects

📚

Geeska — The Somali Horn Review

An attempt to improve the academic milieu in Somali East Africa by establishing a collaborative journal for students and researchers across the region.

🏆

Academic Excellence Award

Related to the journal, I'd like to establish some sort of grant in order to solicit contributions from university students, and showcase some of the graduate research. I've found money is often a great motivator.

🌌

Hargeisa Planetarium

I have a very mild obsession with space and would love to spark curiosity in the cosmos amongst my people. I've sketched out the idea with some calls to action there, in case you want to contribute.

🛠️

Makerspace

Another creative outlet that I genuinely believe would help people innovate in their daily lives and maybe even see some ideas come to life. Who knows? Want to chip in? Check out the proposed setup.

One Last Thing…

🔥

Chip In & Help Build This Stuff 🥹

I'm self-funding most of these initiatives (journal, makerspace, planetarium, student awards…), and trying to set money aside when possible. If any of it resonates with you, especially after the altruism bug bites, you'll find some ways to support here. Check it out.
